The Serra de Tramuntana convertible route: full guide

Sixty kilometres of bends between Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller, with the Mediterranean appearing between the pines. The road our clients repeat most on the island.

The route

The Ma-10 links Palma to Sóller along the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. The stretch that really matters starts in Valldemossa and ends at the Ses Barques viewpoint, already descending towards Sóller: around sixty kilometres of tight bends, blind crests, and the sea appearing and disappearing between the pines.

It's a narrow road with cyclist traffic in high season, so it isn't a circuit — it's a drive to enjoy slowly, with stops, not to set lap times.

Stops worth making

Valldemossa, with the Charterhouse where Chopin once lived, is the first obligatory stop just out of Palma. Deià, perched above the sea with Robert Graves as its most famous neighbour, is where you get out and eat something with a view. And the final descent into Sóller, with the orange-grove valley opening up right after the last tunnel, is the perfect finish before boarding the century-old tram down to Port de Sóller.

When to go and which car to take

The best time is April to June and September to October: mild temperatures and far less traffic than in the middle of August. For this road we favour a well-balanced convertible over pure horsepower — the McLaren Artura Spider or the Ferrari Roma Spider handle the tight bends better than a car built for the straights.

If the plan is to feel the engine echo off the mountain, the Huracán EVO Spyder changes the experience completely: the naturally aspirated V10 bouncing off Valldemossa's stone walls is, without exaggeration, the reason people come back to drive this route more than once.

We start from Palma airport (PMI) or from your hotel; leaving early, the full route with stops is a comfortable morning out.
